One of my favorite songs of all time ushers us into our first chat of the Summer.
Let's look at Summer Plans! Q1 What are your plans for summer learning? Summer PD? #sstlap Q2 What is on your summer reading list? #sstlap Q3 What are you going to do to rejuvenate, step away from teaching for a bit and be a human being not responsible for the needs and wants of your students? #sstlap Q4 What should we talk about in future weeks? Help me come up with topics by dropping some ideas into the comment section of the post #sstlap Q5 What subject area do you need some help making ticket lessons? #sstlap Q5a How can we help you in that process? #sstlap I live in Wisconsin and am seeing our government officials especially our governor walker attack education. He recently stated that you don't need to have a license to teach or even a high school diploma. I don't want to start a political debate here, but rather discuss how we can tell our own story, change the script that is being presented by those outside education. So please join in the last few questions about making education better and presenting a positive message in spite of being attacked. Q6 It is summer you have a choice to start a new career or return to education- which do you choose and why? #sstlap Q7 What are the 5 best things about being a teacher that those who aren't might not understand? #sstlap Q8 You continue to share great things will the #sstlap crew- How will you tell your story to families, community and the media to change the perception?

Would it be possible to have some subject specific chats - econ, govt, world history, US history, psych, etc. - where we could bounce ideas around about particular topics that are difficult for us to develop awesome lessons for. I think looking at a topic we're less familiar with (like econ for me) might provide some unique insights into topics with which those who teach the specific area struggle. It might be a chance to think outside our own boxes so to speak as it can sometimes be easier to take off and run with an idea for a topic that's new or at least somewhat less familiar to us. Just an idea. :)
