This week has been a whirlwind adventure in learning. Today I taught the first session of a grad class on Technology infusion which wraps up a week where I attended and presented at University School of Milwaukee's first ever Summer Spark Conference organized by the amazing staff including Chuck Taft @chucktaft. It was an amazing experience which included an phenomenal keynote by Dave Burgess and opportunities to connect with members of my PLN like Heidi Jones, Sandy Otto, Matt Miller, to name a few. I don't want to slight anyone who was there and I connected with, just didn't want to take up the entire post listing the dozens of people I was able to spend time learning with.
I am thankful for the efforts of those who organized and helped make the conference an amazing experience for all who attended. I appreciate the opportunity to share some of my ideas with those who attended my sessions on digital storytelling. It was great to hear how others could see using ideas in their own classroom. I chose a diverse path in my sessions for the two days. I went to technology sessions, leadership, and even skipped a formal session to converse with other teachers as well as great conversations at dinner. I am always impressed with teachers who make a conscious choice to give up there time to connect and learn. How many other professions do people so freely give up their time and talents to learn and grow. The conversations I was able to participate in brought up a variety of topics, but the overall theme that I am able to take away has been about improving schools and our own classroom environment. As we continue to expand our educational knowledge, we have a responsibility to help others grow for the sake of all of our students. Tonight we are looking at improvement. He recently stated that you don't need to have a license to teach or even a high school diploma. I don't want to start a political debate here, but rather discuss how we can tell our own story, change the script that is being presented by those outside education. So please join in the last few questions about making education better and presenting a positive message in spite of being attacked.
